GALLERY SWAP

The ARTery Gallery @ The LAB presents

"Suburban Nightmare: Punk in OC"
Opening Reception: Friday July 8, 7-11pm
July 8 - Aug 6, 2011

ARTISTS
Edward Colver, Rikk Agnew, Russ Pope, Paul D'Elia, William Zdan, Burger Records
Christie Yuri Noh, Mike Atta, and more

The artworks in this show highlight the rich history of punk counter-culture in Orange County, and its continued relevance today. Orange County has stereotypes of conservative politics, affluence, and materialism. However, this show represents the presence of an underground culture that arose in direct antagonism to these stereotypes, and how that underground exists today. The punk artists featured in this show question prevailing cultural attitudes, and seek to present an alternative attitude of free expression.

This show is curated by Jesse La Tour of The Hibbleton Gallery in Fullerton as a part of a gallery swap so be sure to check out ARTery Gallery Director Tracey Taylor's show at The Hibbleton "Hotter Than a Match Head: A Love Letter to the City" opening on July 1 during the Downtown Fullerton First Friday Art Walk!
