Artist Profile: Christie Yuri Noh

With a solo show at Book Machine and PAS Gallery's group show "Walt!" in addition to "Hotter Than a Match Head," Christie Yuri Noh is straight taking over the Magoski Arts Colony in July! I can't wait. - Tracey

Christie Yuri Noh likes to watch movies at the theater, see live music, and prefers walking. Often these things influence the work or provides the opportunity for new ideas.

Artist Profile: Leyla Akdogan

I am delighted to have Leyla's work in the show and adorning the show flyer. Her whimsical, illustrative watercolor & ink work is so detailed & charming but at the same time a little raw with dynamic linework. - Tracey

Leyla Akdogan received her Bachelor's in Fine Arts from the University of Southern California, and studied jewelry design at the Gemological Institute of America in Manhattan. In 2005 Leyla relocated to Lacoste, France, where she studied illustration at the SCAD University campus there. In 2007 she moved back to Los Angeles & continued her studies with graphic novel illustration at Art Center in Pasadena. A three-year resident artist at The Hive Gallery & Studios in Downtown LA, she spends her time creating intricate worlds in watercolor and ink, inspired by myth, fairytale, and vigilant daydreaming.

A Love Letter to Fullerton from Jesse La Tour

Written by "Hotter Than a Match Head: A Love Letter to the City" artist Jesse La Tour

Dear Fullerton,

I know we have had our disagreements. For a long time, I hated you. I hated your 30 bars in 5 blocks. I hated your fighting. I hated your jay walking tickets. I hated the vomit on your sidewalks.

I hated your segregation: whites north of Chapman, Mexicans south of Valencia, Koreans west of Euclid, blacks almost nowhere.

I hated your politicians bankrolled by corporations like Chevron, your conservative political action committees, your cushy pensions, your short-sighted bureaucratic buffoonery, your closed sessions..."
